Based in Finglas in Dublin, the St Helena’s Group have made fantastic achievements in developing a community garden in the grounds of the resource centre. The idea of having a community garden started after the nursery in the St Helena’s grounds was burned down by vandals. Staff at the resource centre wished to develop a garden on the site that the local community could participate in. Since then, after receiving grants from Green Communities, the Daisy Roots group has built raised beds, planted vegetables, cleared stables at the back of the St Helena’s House for storage and a greenhouse, as well as building bird boxes. The Daisy Roots Gardening Project was officially launched by the President Mary McAleese on December 6th 2010 .
