The Finglas Community Garden started in the grounds of St.Joseph's National School in 2006, making it one of the older gardens of this kind in Dublin. The site is a long strip roughly 5m by 100m that had previously been heavily overgrown. Members meet once a week throughout the year; we run a 4-way crop rotation for annual plants (potato, cabbage, roots, legumes), and tend the herb garden and soft fruit. Our latest addition is a forest garden comprising an orchard and soft fruit. We haven't used the whole plot and hope to retain some wild areas for biodiversity; other plans include involving the school children in gardening activities and increasing our membership.
Expansion of the garden has been made possible by our Green Communities grant from An Taisce.
